Getting your kids to school can be a challenge, especially when the existing systems aren’t working properly. So, when one student decided to throw in with the striking bus drivers, they cracked out an unconventional transportation method to get to class on time!
Gabriel Deschenes lives in Quebec but attends regular classes at Jeanne-Lajoie Pavillon Secondaire in Pembroke. Without the busses to ensure he arrives on time to class, he decided to take matters into his own hands, and kayaking seemed the logical solution.
June third at 6:30 he departed his home for school. Saturday and Sunday were spent on the Ottawa River in a kayak, with some time spent on Sunday to rest before arriving just in time for classes on Tuesday morning. Gabriel has some big dreams for his future. His goal is to promote active outdoor activities and lived it through paddle and portage.
Gabriel showed some serious mettle, not just for himself, but also for the striking bus drivers. His goal is to promote active outdoor activities, and lived it through paddle and portage, at only fifteen years old, to stand strong with bus drivers.
