The Ottawa Valley Vikings are looking for their next wave of new players.
Club President Tim Gilchrist says the youth volleyball club is hosting a four-day open house at Fellowes High School in Pembroke starting on September 11th.
Gilchrist says the information sessions will give parents and athletes a chance to learn more about the program and the upcoming try-outs, adding that players who can commit to the schedule will fit right in.
When it comes to a competitive experience, Gilchrist explains that the Vikings are the only game in town and that you would have to make the trip to Ottawa to get something similar to what they provide for young men and women in the area.
Pre-registration for the program is already underway, and Gilchrist believes that there should be enough girls in the program for multiple teams across all age groups.
It’s a boon for women’s sports in the Ottawa Valley, which he believes is underrepresented.
There is good news for the boys team as well, as the registration numbers are trending towards them also being able to put a team together this year after failing to do so in 2022.
If long-distance travel is your main concern, the Vikings have announced through their social media that they are looking to see if there’s enough interest outside of the Pembroke area to host an Under-18 girls team in Renfrew.
