Kevin Chiasson has been a baseball coach with the Upper Ottawa Valley Little League for several years, ever since his sons got involved heavily with the sport. The UOVLL is community-based, volunteer-driven, non-profit organization dedicated to providing both House and Competitive level baseball and softball for boys and girls (aged 4 to 16), as well as coaching, umpiring and other volunteer opportunities for community members of all ages. Players come from beyond Pembroke and Petawawa, to Deep River, Eganville, Cobden, Laurentian Valley, Westmeath and Beachburg. Chiasson, also a member of our armed forces, says the biggest challenge to any coach is to have patience with the kids. But the benefits out weigh the hard times when you see your players succeed. This past season, the UOVLL had a record number of players registered, equaling out to close to 500 from T-Ball to Jr/Sr age groups. Showing that baseball has been rejuvenated in the Ottawa Valley and shouldn’t go unnoticed.
