In a special event at Algonquin College on January 24th, former Olympic medalist Elizabeth Manley shared insights on mental health for Bell Let’s Talk Day. Manley has been an advocate for mental health ever since she found out about her own mental health back when she was only 16 years old.
She has fought hard to speak the truth about her journey and how mental health has an impact on everyone. Manley wants to make sure everyone knows it’s okay to have off days as long as you get right back up.
Highlighting the prevalence of mental health issues in Canada, Manley stressed that 1 in 3 people faces these challenges. In an interview with myFM, she underscored the significance of reaching out for support, emphasizing that seeking help is the best course of action.
Manley encouraged taking the first step towards realizing it’s okay to seek guidance for mental health.
During the event, Manley facilitated an open conversation among students, urging them to share their perspectives on mental health and discuss strategies for overcoming challenges. The interactive session provided a platform for everyone to explore what mental health means to them and how to conquer these obstacles.
