The verdict in the second-degree murder trial of a North Algona Wilberforce man is expected to be delivered near the end of March.
Brandon Lamoureux was charged with second-degree murder in the July 21, 2021 stabbing death of 40-year-old Gilbert Rumleskie, following an incident at the Pine Tree Motel in Eganville.
The latest leg of the trial, which began in 2023 and was delayed several times, resumed Feb. 12 at the Superior Court of Justice in Pembroke. The trial wrapped up on Wednesday, Feb. 21 with closing arguments from defence lawyers Forest Poff-Smith and Mark Huckabone of Huckabone Law and Crown Attorney James Bocking, lead prosecutor.
Among those called to the stand by the defence was Lamoureux, who testified in his own defence last week.
Justice Anne London-Weinstein, who is presiding over the case, told the court she may need more time but she would aim to have the decision completed by the assigned March 25 date.
