Petawawa’s landscape is set to transform as Metro initiates the construction of a Food Basics along Canadian Forces Blvd. The acquisition of the land dates back over eight years, and in 2021, the finalization of building plans paved the way for the anticipated fall opening of the grocery store.
Christine Mitchell Manager of Economic Development for the Town of Petawawa tells myFM that Metro owns eight acres and are planning to utilize the entire space.
Mitchell says that the more options for residents to shop will be better for the town.
Mitchell highlights the significance of this development. She envisions an increase in town traffic and emphasizes the positive impact on local businesses as residents are provided with the opportunity to support nearby establishments.
Spread across eight acres, the expansive land acquired by Metro is not solely earmarked for the grocery store. The 32,000 square foot building, valued at $4 million, is expected to occupy only a fraction of the total area, leaving ample space for potential future endeavors.
