UPDATE: Power restored – At 10:33 p.m., Ottawa River Power Corporation reported that crews have completed switching operations and power had been restored to all affected customers. Hydro One’s website also indicated power had been restored in the affected areas.
A power outage is affecting customers in Pembroke and the surrounding area this evening (Feb. 25).
Both Ottawa River Power Corporation (ORPC) and Hydro One have outages listed on their websites.
At 9:16 p.m., Ottawa River Power posted to social media saying portions of the city are experiencing a power interruption due to “damage at substation.”
“Crews are about to begin switching operations to restore power to most of the affected customers,” reads the post.
Estimated time of restoration is 45 minutes, say ORPC officials, except for areas downtown and in the area of Nelson Street, which will take up to two hours.
“Customers will notice a few brief interruptions over the next two hours as switching operations take place,” reads the post. “Thank you for your patience.”
Several online commenters are reporting seeing a bright flash of light near the ORPC building in Pembroke before the outage.
Among the affected facilities was the Pembroke Memorial Centre where the Pembroke Lumber Kings were mid-game, down 3-0 after 40 minutes, versus the Navan Grads. The game was suspended because of the power outage.
More information can be found on the Hydro One and Ottawa River Power Corporation websites.
More details will be provided when they become available.
