An Ottawa Valley senior is being recognized by the province for his extensive volunteer work in his community.
Lorenz Kelo, who is known in his community as someone who has dedicated his time and energy to many causes close to his heart, was among 20 outstanding seniors in Toronto Feb. 29 to receive the Ontario Senior Achievement Award.
For more than 25 years, Lorenz has volunteered to help the Rankin Recreation Association with property maintenance and fundraising events. In 2016, he began volunteering with the Eganville and District Seniors Citizen Needs Association as a driver for Meals on Wheels, driving twice a week to reach isolated, at-risk seniors, often in remote communities. In 2017, he became chair of Home Support Services, furthering his deep commitment to helping his community.
Eganville and District Seniors shared the news on social media.
“Congratulations to our wonderful volunteer, Lorenz Kelo, who received the Ontario Seniors Achievement Award today in Toronto!”
“I am delighted to help present the Ontario Senior Achievement Awards to a remarkable group of recipients,” said the Honourable Edith Dumont, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario. “It is important that we continue to recognize the contributions of seniors in our society, and I am so glad to have this opportunity to shine a light on the work of 20 impressive Ontarians, who have done so much to uplift and support their communities.”
