In response to a trespassing complaint lodged on the evening of March 9, 2024, law enforcement officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) sprang into action, swiftly apprehending an individual discovered trespassing at an apartment complex located on Elizabeth Street in Pembroke.
The individual, identified as Richard Farr Jr., aged 36 and hailing from Laurentian Valley Township, was promptly taken into custody by the attending officers. Subsequent investigations led to the discovery and seizure of suspected illicit substances, namely fentanyl and methamphetamines.
Farr Jr. now finds himself facing a string of charges under various legislative acts, including the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), Criminal Code (CC), and Trespass to Property Act (TPA). These charges encompass possession of a schedule 1 substance – methamphetamine, possession of a schedule 1 substance – fentanyl, as well as failure to comply with probation (three counts), and entering premises when entry is prohibited.
Following his apprehension Farr Jr. was held in custody awaiting a bail hearing. He remains detained pending his next scheduled appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke, slated for April 3, 2024.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the persistent efforts undertaken by law enforcement agencies to combat the scourge of illicit drug activities within the Pembroke community. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly to ensure the continued safety and well-being of the community.
