The Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is gearing up to take part in a Provincial Traffic Safety Campaign with a sharp focus on seatbelt compliance during the upcoming Easter Long Weekend, spanning from March 29 to April 1, 2024.
Officials emphasize the critical importance of all drivers and passengers adhering to proper restraint measures while in a vehicle, irrespective of the journey’s duration. Specifically, young children must be securely fastened in a child car seat, and drivers hold the responsibility for ensuring that passengers under the age of 16 are adequately restrained. Violations of seatbelt regulations carry a fine totaling $240 along with two demerit points.
While the campaign’s primary objective is to promote seatbelt usage, law enforcement officers will maintain a strong presence throughout the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment area. They will pay particular attention to addressing “The Big 4” factors contributing to personal injury collisions: impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving, and lack of occupant restraint.
The OPP reaffirms its unwavering commitment to enhancing traffic safety and protecting all road users. Authorities urge collective efforts from the community to strive towards making our roadways the safest in Canada throughout the Easter Long Weekend.
