Three years ago, on January 14th, 2021, the Pembroke Regional Hospital (PRH) Foundation embarked on a significant endeavor – the $3.5 million Cancer Care Campaign. The aim? To enhance, upgrade, and expand vital facilities within the hospital’s Chemotherapy and Medical Day Care unit, alongside the pivotal Pharmacy, responsible for chemotherapy medication preparation.
Roger Martin, Executive Director of the PRH Foundation, underscored the importance of the pharmacy within these renovations.
Since its inception in 2011, the hospital’s Chemotherapy unit has witnessed a notable uptick in treatments administered. In the span from April 1, 2022, to March 31, 2023, the Pharmacy team meticulously prepared 2,080 chemotherapy treatments, supporting 1,165 patient visits within the Chemotherapy unit alone.
The expanded unit promises several enhancements, including three additional treatment chairs, two patient washrooms, an infection control isolation room, a private examination room, a versatile area catering to patient needs for ice, water, and light snacks, and a centralized nursing station.
Reflecting on the campaign’s inception, Martin expressed immense gratitude for the overwhelming support garnered from the community.
The campaign, which has reached its three-year milestone, stands as a testament to the community’s unwavering commitment to enhancing healthcare services for cancer patients. Martin emphasized the significance of ongoing efforts to ensure top-notch healthcare services for patients in the Renfrew County area.
As the PRH Foundation remains steadfast in its mission, it continues to rely on the generosity of the community. Donations to support these vital endeavors are still actively encouraged and warmly welcomed.
