A Beachburg resident is facing charges following an investigation into an April 11 break-in at a restaurant in the village.
Tropical fish and a quantity of cash were stolen, say Upper Ottawa Valley Ontario Provincial Police.
“On April 19, after a boatload of support from the public, officers along with the assistance of the Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) were able to ‘reel’ in and arrest the accused,” reads an OP press release.
OPP officers executed a warrant on a residence in Whitewater Region Township and located the stolen tropical fish, which were returned to their owner.
Justin McClelland, 23, of Beachburg, was charged with break and enter, theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. The accused was caught and released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on June 3.
The charges have not been proven in court.
“The wave of support from the public was ‘fintastic.’ The OPP would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that they can make a difference and still remain anonymous,” reads the release.
