The ministry of agriculture in Quebec is warning the public not to consume various meat products sold by a Shawville slaughterhouse.
The warning, issued Thursday, April 25, relates to beef and sheep products packaged in early March from Abattoir les viandes du Pontiac. It urges the public to not consume the meat because animals were slaughtered without following the permanent inspection slaughter process, which officials say is likely to affect the safety of products.
The advisory covers all bovine offal products; bovine cuts with tracing numbers 5827, 5828, 5829; and sheep products numbered 504765086.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food issued the warning as a precautionary measure, no cases of illness associated with the consumption of the foods have been reported to date.
People who have any of these products in their possession are advised not to consume it and should throw it away. Although products may not show signs of spoilage or a suspicious odour, their consumption may pose a health risk, say officials.
Abattoir les viandes du Pontiac is located at 65 Route 148 in Shawville.
