With the Petawawa Golf Club receiving a notice from the Garrison regarding its closure, it has left many people wondering what’s actually going on? Last week, members of golf club received a notice that funding for essential upgrades to ensure the safety of the building and clubhouse is unavailable. A notice from the 4th Canadian Division Support Group states that the facility will cease operations as of April 1st, 2025. Robert Nancekeville a member of the golf club and used to work for the Garrison for 38 years tells myFM news that he is not sure what they mean regarding the building’s safety.
The club is used for more than just serving the members, the Moe Norman Lounge, with a seating capacity of 100 is used for so many events. As well as the River View Banquet Hall with a seating capacity of up to 240(with dance floor) and 260(without dance floor). As with the Moe Norman Lounge, the River View Banquet Hall features its own full bar and Kitchen along with outdoor balcony overlooking the golf course and River. Nancekeville explains that this closure is affecting a lot of people in the community.
Nancekeville is speaking on behalf of the owner of the club and the members, “They won’t even sit down with the members to explain more about what’s going on and the real reason they are closing the club down”. He tells myFM news that the owner of the golf club is trying to make the most of it, even if it’s not going his way.
With many questions left unanswered, the members are hoping that there will be some sort of meeting to talk more about why they are closing the club and the reason in a more open matter.
