A second-degree murder trial almost three years in the making culminated today, May 6, in a not guilty verdict.
Brandon Lamoureux, of North Algona Wilberforce, was charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of 40-year-old Gilbert Rumleskie, following an incident at the Pine Tree Motel in Eganville in July 2021.
Justice Anne London-Weinstein delivered her verdict in a Pembroke courtroom this morning, noting the crown had not proven the guilt of the accused beyond a reasonable doubt, finding Lamoureux not guilty and dismissing the charge.
The credibility of several witnesses, including of Jordan Plumb who was at first also charged in the incident but had charges dropped, was among the reasons given for the not-guilty verdict. Security video footage the crown pointed to as evidence of Lamoureux’s guilt was just not conclusive, she said.
Lamoureux, who took the stand in his own defence, was represented by Huckabone Law.
