The community is invited to mark National Indigenous Peoples Day this Friday, June 21 at an event being held at the Pembroke Marina Ampitheatre.
The lighting of a sacred fire and opening ceremony will kick off a day of celebrations.
The event is hosted by Waka-ehi Lodge, which is part of Family and Children’s Services of Renfrew County (FCSRC), and made possible thanks to a number of community sponsors.
“We have a great lineup of interactive activities planned throughout the day including a sacred fire, drumming, smudge, elder teachings, as well as numerous indigenous artists, authors, and vendors,” said RCSRC’s Steve Fortin, one of the event’s organizers. “We hope that everyone will come down to experience, learn, and celebrate the richness of indigenous culture!”
Activities get underway at 10 a.m.
