McGregor’s Produce customers can still get strawberries this year, they just won’t be picking their own.
Deb McGregor says the farm has made a tough decision to cancel their U-Pick Strawberry season after a winter without enough snow to protect their June-bearing strawberry crops and a sudden cold snap in the spring.
The loss of the U-Pick season is a blow to many customers, who Deb says not only enjoy the opportunity to get out with their families to see where their food comes from, but also take advantage of the lower cost for berries for canning and preserving.
The farm’s everbearing strawberry crops are doing okay, but turning them in U-Pick fields would present another problem.
Losing out on U-Pick strawberries is tough, but McGregor does note that a different berry should not have any issues when it’s U-Pick season come next month.
McGregor’s Produce strawberries are still available at any of their satellite produce stands across the Ottawa Valley.
