Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario President and CEO Alex Munter has announced he’ll be making a move this fall.
Munter, who spent 13 years in the role, in October will become CEO of the Canadian Medical Association and its group of companies.
Munter is the longest serving children’s hospital CEO in the country and longest serving hospital CEO in Ottawa, said CHEO board chair Jo-Anne Poirier in a statement.
While CHEO is sad to lose such an exemplary leader, the board extends its deepest thanks for all he has accomplished, she said.
CMA board chair Dr. Suzanne Strasberg said in a statement that Alex brings to the position decades of experience in the health sector. He is recognized for his bold and inclusive leadership, and for placing patients and health providers at the heart of decision-making, she said.
“We’re excited to have Alex take hold of our bold agenda of change. His decades of experience in health care advocacy and commitment to inclusivity and collaboration will bolster the momentum the CMA has built to improve health and health care,” said Dr. Strasberg.
In a letter to his CHEO colleagues, Munter said he was delivering the news with mixed emotions.
“Being here has changed me as a person, helped me develop skills I never knew I had and inspired me in ways I will never, ever forget. I will take that experience with me to my next role but a part of my heart will remain with CHEO forever,” he wrote.
