The City of Pembroke is grieving the loss of former mayor and councilor Henry V. Brown, who passed away on August 25, 2024, at the age of 87. Brown, a dedicated educator and business owner, played a significant role in Pembroke’s development, serving as a city councilor before becoming the 39th mayor from 1975 to 1980.
During his tenure, Brown led the city through a period of substantial growth, overseeing the development of key community landmarks such as the Pembroke and Area Community Centre, the Pembroke Marina, and Festival Hall. He was also a strong advocate for affordable and seniors housing.
Mayor Ron Gervais praised Brown’s contributions, stating, “Henry Brown dedicated his life to the service of others, whether in City Hall or in our schools. His legacy continues to impact the Heart of the Ottawa Valley. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.”
In honor of Henry V. Brown’s life and service, flags at all City of Pembroke facilities will be flown at half-mast until September 2, 2024.
