Two individuals are facing Criminal Code charges following an assault on an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer during an impaired driving investigation in Pembroke.
The incident occurred on September 8, 2024, at approximately 1:30 a.m. Officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment initiated a traffic stop on Prince Street to investigate a suspected impaired driver. While conducting the roadside investigation, an uninvolved individual began interfering and assaulted the officer. The police deployed a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) to subdue the suspect, who was arrested without further incident. During this disruption, the driver involved in the initial stop fled the scene. No serious injuries were reported.
Reuben Condly, 44, of Pembroke, was arrested and charged with Obstructing a Peace Officer, Assaulting a Peace Officer, and Breach of Recognizance. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on October 15, 2024.
