Five teenage girls are facing repercussions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) following an assault on a 15-year-old female at a Pembroke high school.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 11, 2024. Officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment launched an investigation after the assault was reported. Working closely with school officials, they were able to identify those involved. The victim sustained minor injuries.
As a result, two of the youths, aged 15 and 16, have been arrested and charged with assault. They will appear in Youth Court at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke at a later date. The other three youths, aged 16 to 17, will face Extra Judicial Measures under the YCJA, diverting them from formal charges. All parents have been notified, and the names of the involved teens cannot be released due to YCJA provisions.
Police and school authorities are continuing to work together to ensure a safe environment for all students and staff.
