An important figure in minor and junior hockey across the Ottawa Valley has lost his long battle with cancer.
Todd Clarke, a former assistant coach for the Renfrew Wolves and Pembroke Lumber Kings, is being remembered following his death over the weekend.
In a statement, the Wolves say Clarke’s passion for the game “left a lasting impact not only on our team but also on countless junior hockey players across the valley and beyond.” They add that “his influence as a mentor and friend will be cherished and remembered by those who had the honour of knowing him.”
Former Wolves head coach Ryan Leonard, who spent the past few seasons working with Clarke, says they two formed a relationship that he will always cherish. Leonard notes that “watching him go through this process the last three years, we lived it with him as he toughed it out to continue coaching and living life to the fullest,” adding that he realizes he met a true warrior in Clarke.
Condolences have also come in from the Pembroke Lumber Kings and Renfrew Minor Hockey Association, who say that the community will be mourning the loss of a dedicated coach but also an amazing person, husband, father, and friend.
