The Renfrew County Community Poverty Action Network (CPAN) is gearing up for another winter with its Operation Snowsuit program. Tony Jacyno, representing the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Principal Council of Renfrew County, played a key role in securing these donations. With the cost of living rising, this support is crucial as last season Operation Snowsuit served 640 children.
Chela Breckon Executive Director for Renfrew County CPAN tells myFM how important community partnership is, especially for charities like this one.
Orders for winter gear opened on October 4th and can be placed through CPAN’s website at www.renfrewcountycpan.ca. Deliveries will begin arriving at partner offices around the county as early as October 8 and will continue weekly until all orders are filled. Operation Snowsuit is province-wide with the Knights of Columbus aiding in all of them. Cathy Machin has led Operation Snowsuit for over ten years, supported by Office and Program Administrator Melody Barycky and a dedicated team of volunteers who assist with packing and delivery. CPAN is currently seeking additional drivers to help transport orders from Pembroke to various locations in Renfrew County.
Anyone in Renfrew County who is in direct care of children and/or youth can fill out the form to be entered into the program. Brekon goes into detail regarding what is in each package.
CPAN also thanks local agencies, including PMFRC Petawawa, the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan Band Office, and others, for their support in helping families access these resources. To improve inventory management, CPAN is asking donors to hold onto gently used snowsuits, boots, hats, and mitts until January 2025, when community drives will be organized. Brekon also tells myFM that this year looks a little different from previous years and here’s why.
Anyone interested in becoming a driver, donor, or joining CPAN’s new network, “The Village,” can call 613-735-9573 or email reception@renfrewcountycpan.ca. Join the effort to support local children this winter!
