Every October, the Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies (OACAS) leads the Dress Purple Day campaign, which focuses on the vital role that individuals and communities play in supporting children, youth, and families facing challenges. This year, Dress Purple Day will be observed on October 25.
In partnership with the government, community organizations, service providers, and child welfare agencies, the campaign aims to raise awareness about the support available in Ontario. It emphasizes the importance of early intervention and prevention services, ensuring that children and youth know their rights to safety and well-being in all settings, including at home and school.
In 2023, OACAS encouraged community members to share what Dress Purple Day meant to them while reminding families that help is available. However, many families still struggle to access these services due to a lack of local programming or lengthy wait times.
This year, OACAS is calling on Ontario to strengthen social infrastructure, ensuring that children and families have timely access to high-quality, trauma-informed supports that are inclusive and meet their unique needs. Community members are encouraged to join OACAS in advocating for these essential services, helping to create a better future for children and families across the province.
