It’s Friday, Oct. 25 and you may be seeing more than the usual number of purple shirts. If you’re wondering what’s up, it’s Dress Purple Day, a campaign led by the Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies (OACAS), that aims to raise awareness about the support available in Ontario.
Jennifer White, executive director of Renfrew County Family and Children’s Services says there are a whole bunch of community partners across the county that are geared to support families and children.
Life can be truly challenging for some families, says White.
The cost of living is high and seemingly increasing all the time, making it hard for some families to afford basic needs. Also, there’s been a rise in anxiety, depression, substance use and other mental health conditions.
Dealing with all these challenges can be really isolating, said White. That’s where Dress Purple Day comes in.
And if you’re wearing purple, let people know about it and why, said White.
Take a photo and post it to social media, with the hashtag #dresspurple.
