With Halloween being over and children digging into their candy bags, the Bancroft Detachment is warning parents to closely inspect their children’s treats after a report of a rusty thumb tack found inside a mini chocolate bar. This incident occurred after trick-or-treating in Bancroft’s downtown area, specifically along the route from Hastings Street to Station Street, ending near Monck Street. The source of the chocolate bar remains unknown.
To ensure safety during this time, the OPP encourages parents and guardians to check all Halloween treats for signs of tampering. They should look for any tears, holes, or irregularities in candy wrappers, as well as signs of re-sealing or altered packaging. Any items that appear suspicious, even if unopened, should also be scrutinized.
If any candy seems to be tampered with, residents should contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips can also be provided through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Parents are urged to take these precautions to keep their children safe this Halloween season.
