Ontario’s fire season officially ended on October 31, with provincial outdoor burning regulations no longer in effect. Between April 1 and October 31, a total of 480 wildland fires were reported in Ontario’s Fire Region, burning 89,841.3 hectares of land.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry thanks all members of the Aviation, Forest Fire, and Emergency Services team for their hard work and dedication throughout the season. While the fire season has ended, the public is reminded to remain cautious when having outdoor fires during the off-season. Residents within municipal boundaries should check with their local fire department for specific burning restrictions or permit requirements.
As part of ongoing fire safety efforts, Ontario encourages homeowners to prepare their properties for the next fire season by following FireSmart guidelines. Simple steps such as cleaning gutters, maintaining rooftops, and keeping decks and yards clear of leaves and woody debris can help reduce fire risks. Looking ahead, FireRanger recruitment for the 2025 fire season begins on November 1. Interested candidates can learn more about the recruitment process and apply at Ontario.ca/FireRanger.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry continues to urge Ontarians to stay safe and FireSmart year-round, as wildfires can occur at any time, even during the off-season.
