Coming home as a bronze medalist from the Paralympics must be surreal, and Jolan Wong can confirm that. Wong and her team won Bronze in Sitting Volleyball against Brazil in the 2024 Paralympics. The community supported her journey from start to finish and welcomed her home with a huge party put on by the town. To make things even better, Wong was awarded the key to the city and was presented by Mayor Ron Gervais.
Wong tells myFM that this was her third year and meant so much more to her as the last games were during the pandemic and were closed to the public.
Jolan explained that before leaving for Paris she tried to connect with Mayor Ron Gervais which didn’t end up happening, so instead they threw a party when she got home.
Wong was so happy to see the community come together and have a great time, and she had the answer to the question that everyone had been asking her.
She has three children ages ranging from one to 14 who have traveled the world with her, she tells myFM how important it is for her to display what women with disabilities can do.
She isn’t done yet, her goal is to make it to the 2028 Paralympics, her training hasn’t started yet and with some downtime, she has decided to give back to the community.
Wong reminds everyone especially young girls that you can do anything you set your mind and heart too.
