For the first time in five years, there will be an election for the Renfrew County warden position.
Reeve Peter Emon of the Town of Renfrew and Mayor Rob Weir of the Township of Greater Madawaska have both been nominated for the 2025 Warden’s seat.
County councillors will cast ballots on Dec. 10, during the inaugural session of County Council, to decide who will assume the Office of the Warden of the County of Renfrew for 2025.
“A formal nomination process takes place annually for the Office of Warden, and any member of County Council is eligible after being nominated by two fellow council members. The successful councillor then fills the Office of Warden for a one-year term,” reads a County of Renfrew press release.
“The warden fulfills the role as head of council. The nomination process closes 30 days prior to the Inaugural Session and if there is more than one nomination, an election is required at the December meeting to determine the warden for the upcoming year,” reads the release.
Peter Emon currently holds the position.
