Deep River & District Health Foundation’s Dip to Donate Polar Plunge is a new event designed to get the community involved while raising funds for a great cause. Head to the Centennial Rock, Riverbank Park, in Deep River on December 7th and get ready to plunge, the event runs from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Individuals can register, set a fundraising goal, and then plunge into the icy waters of the Ottawa River in the name of good fun! Teams can nominate someone they want to send into the frigid waters, set a fundraising goal, and if that goal is met, their nominee has to take the plunge! They are also offering some fun activities on the campus behind Centennial Rock that the whole family can enjoy.
James Thompson Community Engagement & Fundraising Coordinator, Deep River & District Health tells myFM why they decided to create this event.
All sponsorship dollars will go towards the expenses of hosting the Dip to Donate Polar Plunge with the overall goal of supporting the $2.5M Closer to Home campaign to build a 96-Bed Long-Term Care home at the DRDH. This new home, tentatively called the Four Seasons Lodge, will provide a significant reduction in the long-term care waitlist. The home will also employ 200 people with roughly $5M in annual wages going into the community.
Thompson explains to the community how you can register for the plunge, don’t worry you can dip alone or in a group!
With the holiday season creeping up, Thompson states that Deep River will be bursting with fun activities on the day of the plunge.
