A Pembroke resident is facing multiple charges following a traffic stop on November 14. OPP responded to a report of a possible impaired driver in Pembroke around 9:00 p.m. Officers located the vehicle near the Pembroke Marina and conducted a traffic stop.
The driver, 26-year-old Gage Canning, was arrested for impaired driving. Further testing at the OPP detachment revealed his blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit. Police also discovered stolen licence plates during the investigation.
Canning has been charged with operation while impaired, operation with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, use of unauthorized plates, driving without a permit, and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.
His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. Canning was released and is scheduled to appear in court on December 17, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.
The OPP reminds drivers that impaired driving is a serious offence, and anyone who suspects a driver is impaired should report it immediately to help keep roads safe.
