A Belleville resident is facing serious fraud-related charges after an investigation by the OPP revealed significant losses at a local business.
In February, the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment launched a criminal investigation following reports from a Pembroke business about fraudulent transactions. Upon further examination, it was discovered that the company had lost over $30,000 over several months due to the fraudulent activity.
As a result of the investigation, 66-year-old Deborah Govier was arrested on November 19. She has been charged with two Criminal Code offences:
- Fraud over $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
Govier was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on December 17, 2024.
The OPP continues to investigate the case.
