The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment members charged a Pembroke man after investigating false 9-1-1 calls.
On November 19, OPP arrested Justin Hunt, a 29-year-old resident of Pembroke, and charged him with public mischief under the Criminal Code. The charges come after an investigation into multiple false emergency calls made to the police.
Hunt was released following his arrest and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on December 16.
The OPP reminds the public that 9-1-1 should only be used for emergencies involving police, fire, medical situations, or when someone’s safety, health, or property is in danger. The misuse of 9-1-1 can delay responses to real emergencies, potentially risking people’s lives.
For non-emergency situations, the OPP encourages the public to use the toll-free number 1-888-310-1122, which is available 24/7 for service in Ontario.
