The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment has issued consequences under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) to three youths involved in a break-and-enter in Pembroke.
On November 18, at approximately 8:50 p.m., police responded to a reported break-and-enter in progress at an abandoned commercial building on the 900 block of MacKay Street. When officers arrived, three individuals fled on foot but were quickly apprehended after a brief foot chase.
The three suspects, all 16 years old, two from Pembroke and one from Laurentian Valley, will not face criminal charges but will undergo Extra Judicial Measures (EJM) as part of the YCJA. EJM focuses on helping young offenders take responsibility for their actions, make amends, and reflect on their behavior to prevent future incidents.
The youths were released into the care of their parents. As per the YCJA, their names cannot be disclosed.
