United Way East Ontario’s first annual Novemburger campaign may have ended, but its positive impact continues to resonate throughout the community. During the month of November, 16 restaurants across Prescott-Russell, Ottawa, Lanark County, and Renfrew County participated by creating unique burgers to feature on their menus. For each Novemburger sold, two dollars went toward supporting United Way’s mission of building stronger, healthier communities.
Throughout the month, local businesses sold 3,516 Novemburgers, raising an impressive $15,000 for United Way. This fundraising effort will help support programs aimed at assisting vulnerable people in the region.
The community also came together in creative ways to show support. United Way ambassadors spread the word about the campaign, while Katie Hession hosted a charity spin class at Ottawa’s Where I Thrive, with all proceeds going to Novemburger. Dominion City Brewing Company also got involved by holding a Grey Cup Party, where they collaborated with The King Eddy for a Novemburger pop-up.
Dennise Taylor-Gilhen, Interim President and CEO of United Way East Ontario, expressed her gratitude for the community’s support. “The tough, complex problems are never solved by one organization, one policy, or program,” she said. “It was amazing to see members of our community come together so enthusiastically to support their favorite local businesses through Novemburger while making a difference for the most vulnerable people at the same time.”
Local business owners also shared their excitement about participating. Jamie Law, owner of Law & Orders, emphasized the importance of giving back to the community, saying, “At the end of the day, it’s about being good humans, looking out for your neighbors, and giving back.” Matt Atton, owner of Bamm’s Snack Shack, reflected on the unique opportunity, saying, “This was a chance for us to give back in maybe a different capacity than what we’re used to, and the support has been incredible.”
The winners of this year’s Novemburger campaign were announced, with Blackburn Arms Pub, Bamm’s Snack Shack, and Edinburger taking the top three spots in the People’s Choice Award. Bamm’s Snack Shack also won Novemburger of the Year, as voted by the Novemburger ambassador team, and Law & Orders was recognized for selling the most Novemburgers.
United Way East Ontario extends its thanks to all participating restaurants, ambassadors, and anyone who enjoyed a Novemburger this year. For more information about the campaign and how to get involved in 2025, visit Novemburger 2024! | United Way East Ontario.
