It was a scene that played out across sports bars and living rooms across the nation – reaction to Connor McDavid’s thrilling overtime goal to secure Canada’s win in the first-ever Four Nations Face Off in Boston last night.
Renfrew’s Boston Pizza was packed with hockey fans for the big game and when McDavid scored, the place erupted with cheers and celebrations – as evidenced in a video clip shared by Garry Dillabough.
Thursday night’s game took on added importance with a looming trade war with the U.S. on the horizon and American President Donald Trump’s continued talk of making Canada the 51st US state.
Following the game, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took to X to make a statement, “You can’t take our country — and you can’t take our game.”
