My Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) is once again strengthening its position in Eastern Ontario.
A little over a year after a purchase agreement was reached with Bell Media, the CRTC has approved the sale of two stations in Kingston and two in Brockville to MBC, myFM’s parent company.
On Wednesday, Feb. 26, the Canadian Radio and Television Commission approved MBC’s request to take control of CFJR and CJPT in Brockville, and CFLY and CKLC in Kingston.
As we hear from MBC VP of Content & Regional Manager, Rob Mise, the current staff members are a big part of the future.
MBC has also received approval for new licences to continue operating the four stations.
In its decision the CRTC stated, “The Commission finds that approving this transaction is in the public interest, as it will help ensure that the stations continue to serve the communities of Brockville and Kingston.”
MBC has a local first approach that will be applied to the new acquisitions. Local news is at the heart of the company’s connections to communities. Local programming will also include sports, news on events, and on-location reports and broadcasts.
We’ll have more on MBC’s plans for Kingston and Brockville in the near future.
