A unique event is being planned in Braeside around Thursday’s lunar eclipse.
McNab-Braeside Township and astronomy enthusiast Andy Kalnins are hosting an overnight gathering to view the eclipse, also known as the Blood Moon, at Red Pine Bay in Braeside.
Kalnins explains what to expect of the eclipse.
There are variables when it comes to how the eclipse will look, he said.
The prediction for this eclipse is that it will be more red than dark, he said.
It’s a celestial event that should be visible across the region.
Unlike a solar eclipse, there is no danger in looking directly at the lunar eclipse.
Officials say Red Pine Bay is a prime location for viewing the eclipse, moonset, and sunrise and Kalnins will be happy to answer any questions and provide insights into the event.
The lunar eclipse viewing begins around midnight and runs through the night.
Township reminders for the night include: dress warmly for the outdoor event; bring your own snacks and drinks; and alcohol, smoking and vaping are not permitted on township property. There will be a portable washroom on site and there is a cleared parking lot for vehicles.
Red Pine Bay is located at 642 Usborne St.
