Petawawa Boulevard is not getting any funding this year. Petawawa Mayor Bob Sweet says he was disappointed to hear they were unsuccessful in getting the funding for the project, which would expand the road to create two lanes of traffic from Doran Road to the Garrison with the addition of a second bridge and round-a-bout. Sweet says in 2007 when they started campaigning for this project, the traffic flowing into the Garrison was already at capacity. The mayor says 12 years later, the population has doubled and there’s still no solution in sight.
At the County of Renfrew operation committee meeting on Tuesday morning (August 13th), the unsuccessful application for funding was talked about in depth. Due to the overwhelming number of applications, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food was responsible for ranking applications for funding. Warden Jennifer Murphy says that is one of the only ministries they didn’t appeal to.
Another meeting is scheduled between county officials and the Minister of Infrastructure next week following the Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference. Murphy says they will be asking the province again to help fund the expansion and revitalization of Petawawa Boulevard.
