Hundreds of soldiers will be crossing Highway 17 this afternoon. As a part of Exercise Stalwart Guardian 2019 roughly 350 Canadian Armed Forces soldiers carrying personal weapons will be crossing at Stewart Crossing and Deluthier Road between Petawawa and Chalk River. The training exercise is expected to take place between 1:00 and 4:00 pm on Tuesday afternoon (August 20th). Drivers are asked to be patient, cautious and to reduce their speed as the high number of soldiers crossing the highway may cause significant congestion. Military Police and the OPP will be on site for safety and traffic control. Exercise Stalwart Guardian is focused on realistic and challenging training for reserve soldiers facilitated by the 2nd Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group based out of Petawawa. These training exercises are important to ensure soldiers are ready when called upon to assist in domestic and international operations. Nearly 1,000 soldiers from across Ontario are taking part in training at Garrison Petawawa and in Meaford, Ontario between August 11th and 25th as part of the annual reserve training. Last week members of the Canadian Armed Forces were taking part in live fire training in Meaford for exercise Stalwart Guardian 2019.
