Funding opportunities for recreation projects has been announced. Chief Administrative Officer for the Township of Whitewater Region, Robert Tremblay, says applications are now being accepted under the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program – Community Culture and Recreation Stream. Tremblay says it’s not often that funding opportunities come around for recreation projects.
Tremblay says they have hired a company to do the detailed design of the work at a cost of $175,000. The design will then be brought forward to council. Tremblay says they’ve done all the work leading up to the funding announcement to increase their chances of being a successful applicant. The deadline for municipalities to apply for the recreation funding is November 12th. The CAO says they’ve conducted a space needs study that showed the need for the work to be completed.
He adds the total cost to renovate the Cobden Arena would be around $3-million and would include the addition of an elevator, dressing rooms and more parking.
The CAO says the recreation grant would cover roughly two-thirds of the costs, with the township paying the remaining amount.
