The Town of Laurentian Valley has proposed an alternate route to the Algonquin Trail using the old CN corridor. Reeve Debbie Robinson says if municipalities want to divert motorized traffic off the Algonquin Trail they need an alternate route. Robinson says a group of residents in the area have asked to stop motorized traffic on the trail behind their homes.
She says Laurentian Valley council still hasn’t made a decision on allowing traffic on that section of trail and doesn’t expect one to be made for several months.
Robinson says the county has approved the proposed alternate route if they choose to divert motorized traffic off the Algonquin Trail. The proposed alternate route would use property owned by Roseburg Inc. and the abandoned CN corridor.
Robinson says the township would be responsible for gate installations, signage and any trail modifications required. She adds the Mayor of Laurentian Valley will be reaching out to the president of the local snowmobile club because both names would need to be on the lease.
