A local long time businessman and true community supporter has passed away. Gerry Binhammer, former owner of Malcolm, Deavitt and Binhammer Funeral Home died at the Pembroke Regional Hospital on Saturday in his 94th year. In 2011, Binhammer received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce for his ongoing contributions to the area. Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce, Lorraine Mackenzie spoke very highly of Binhammer.
For more than four decades Binhammer operated the funeral home in Pembroke. Was an active member of several local organizations including the Kiwanis Club of Pembroke. He was always supportive of fundraising campaigns, helping to ensure that public institutions such as the Pembroke Regional Hospital, Miramichi Lodge and the Algonquin College Waterfront Campus were supported with monetary donations. A visitation will be held at the Malcolm, Deavitt and Binhammer Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 11th, 2020 from 2 to 4:00 and 7 to 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Pembroke on Thursday at 11:00 a.m.
