Edwin Chow is a former member of the Canadian Armed Forces, Mayor for Petawawa, town councillor, volunteer and local pharmacy owner. Ed started his life in Duncan, British Columbia and studied at UBC. Chow joined the military in university and after he finished school enrolled full-time where he was posted to Halifax, Germany and Petawawa. In Petawawa, Chow had the opportunity to purchase a pharmacy which was expanded to six locations across the Ottawa Valley. He says the Village Pharmacy had stores in Petawawa, Pembroke, Deep River, Killaloe and Renfrew and was eventually sold off to the Rexall chain. All throughout his 36-year municipal career, Chow continued to operate the pharmacies and serve the community. Some of the major milestones for Chow during his time with the Town of Petawawa includes spearheading a 21-unit seniors residence. The Riverview Apartments have since been expanded to 35- units. Chow also worked with hockey parents in the community for fundraising efforts to bring the Civic Centre to Petawawa. The former mayor, veteran and pharmacy owner says when you treat the community right, the community treats you right and as a result of his contributions, Chow says he’s had a good life in Petawawa.
Chow has served on the Petawawa Public Library Board and is a long- time member of the Rotary Club of Petawawa. In 2017, Chow received the senior of the year Award and in 2019, Chow was presented the lifetime achievement award from the Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce. Chow thanks the community for making life for him and his family very comfortable.
