Garrison Petawawa welcomed a new Command Team during its first-ever virtual Change of Command and Change of Appointment ceremony on Friday. The ceremony was held at the Normandy Officers Mess, and even though there was no parade, Garrison Petawawa Command Teams, new and old, were happy to participate in a ceremony that respected COVID-19 prevention recommendations which included physical distancing. As part of the Change of Command and Change of Appointment ceremony, the newly promoted 4th Canadian Division Support Group Commander, Brigadier-General Louis Lapointe handed over command of the formation to incoming Commander Colonel John Vass. Formation Sergeant Major CWO Tom Verner passed the mantle to incoming FSM CWO Jack Durnford. Colonel John Vass says he’s ready to take on this leadership role and looks forward to meeting the members of the 4 CDSG Defence Team. The new commander says the Ottawa Valley is home, and after years of working away, it feels great to be back.
