The Town of Petawawa now has an accessible paddleboard, extended mobi-mats at the Point Beach and also a floating wheelchair.
Program Coordinator Colin Coyle says the paddleboard is wheelchair accessible with a ramp system that allows you to back onto it.
Coyle says thanks to an accessibility grant, the town was also able to extend the mobi-mats for wheelchairs to be able to reach the water no matter what the levels are.
The Town of Petawawa also purchased a floating wheelchair that’s able to move across the sand and transfer into the water easily.
Coyle says the floating wheelchair and accessible paddleboard use the buddy system.
You can paddle on your own, but it’s recommended to have another paddleboard following close by or a second person on with you.
Anyone interested in using the equipment can call the Civic Centre (613-687-5678 ext. 2102) and let staff know to have it prepared.
The Program Coordinator for the Town of Petawawa says they’re trying to create an accessible community and allow everyone to enjoy the natural amenities they have to offer.
