The idea of having backyard chickens was presented to Petawawa Town council last night (Monday, August 17th).
Mayor Bob Sweet says one concern would be the smaller properties and controlling the smell.
The backyard chickens proposal was made by Laura Hanek and Jordan Rabishaw.
The pair advocated for around 6 chickens per household and highlighted other cities such as Toronto and Kingston who have implemented similar pilot projects with success.
The Petawawa Mayor says the information will be sent to staff who will come back with a recommendation for council, but he wasn’t able to provide a timeline.
