Frecon Construction has been awarded the job to replace the arena floor and boards at the Civic Centre in Petawawa.
Director of Community Services Kelly Williams told members of council the bid came in at $893,000. Williams says Frecon is experienced in this type of work and noted the company recently completed similar work at the Eganville Arena in Bonnechere Valley and Pakenham Arena in Mississippi Mills.
The project involves the removal and disposal of the existing rink board system followed by the refrigerated concrete floor. Williams says the plan is to start April 1st and it’s expected to take five months to complete. He says the installation of the new concrete refrigerated floor and new rink board system is expected to be completed in time for the 2021/22 arena season.
Mayor Bob Sweet thanked members of council and staff for all the planning that has gone into this. The Mayor says two or three years ago they started putting money away for this project and when it’s finished it will be completely paid for.
Council voted to award the contract to Frecon Construction as part of their virtual council meeting today (February 16th, 2021).
