Garrison Petawawa has received its first large shipment of Moderna vaccines. The first large scale vaccination clinic took place today (April 16th, 2021) at the Silver Dart Arena.
Garrison Petawawa says the aim is to vaccinate approximately 500 members a day, with both first and second doses administered by early June. Medical personnel with the Canadian Armed Forces who are administering the vaccines were vaccinated in early February in order to ensure a smooth and well planned opening of the clinic as soon as the vaccines arrived.
The Commander of the 4th Canadian Division Support Group at Garrison Petawawa, Colonel John Vass, says vaccinating members is key to protecting the readiness and capability of the soldiers at Garrison Petawawa, as well as the health of the communities which we live in. Colonel Vass adds members of Garrison Petawawa continue to implement force health protection measures to minimize the spread of COVID-19 and are strongly encouraged to get vaccinated against COVID-19, in accordance with Government of Canada recommendations, to ensure the force remains healthy, strong and ready to serve Canadians.
Commander of the 2nd Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group (2 CMBG), Colonel Eric Landry, says 2 CMBG soldiers getting vaccinated ensures that the Brigade is postured to respond to operational requirements, both expeditionary and domestic. Colonel Landry adds vaccination against COVID-19 is the best chance we have to end the pandemic and get back to normal activities”.
