The City of Pembroke is flying flags at half mast in memory of the Kamloops residential school victims.
Pembroke Mayor Mike Lemay says he is incredibly saddened to hear about this tragedy and have
lowered our flags in Pembroke to remember the lives of the 215 children whose bodies were found at the site of a former residential school in Kamloops, B.C.
Lemay says they want our Indigenous community to know that Pembroke stands with them during
this difficult time.
In honour of the Indigenous children, some local residents will be gathering today (May 31st, 2021) at 6:00pm to place children’s shoes on the steps of the St. Columbike Cathedral in Pembroke (188 Renfrew Street).
